About Us
My name is Hannah and I started Hummingbird Bake Co. as a way to share my lifelong love for baking with those in my community and beyond. I believe in always using the highest quality ingredients to make fun and elevated cookie flavours for all of life's occasions. Every order is made intentionally and with love, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to connect with my customers and bring some extra sweetness into their life!
The name Hummingbird Bake Co. serves as a way to honor my beautiful mother, Michele, who we lost to cancer in March of 2020.
Very shortly after being diagnosed, she was visiting the site where our first family home was to be built. There she unexpectedly encountered a hummingbird, paying a visit to her despite the uninhabitable construction all around. The image of the hummingbird thereafter stood as her symbol of resilience, hope, and faith as she battled cancer for nearly 16 years. Seeing hummingbirds today is a small reminder that my mother remains with me in all that I do.
My mother taught me practically everything I know about baking and cooking. Growing up, her and I spent many hours in the kitchen baking cookies, brownies, cakes, and other sweets for family gatherings and birthday celebrations. Many of my fondest memories with Mom were in the kitchen baking and cooking together.
Following her passing, the kitchen is where I continue to feel closest to her as I make many of the very same baked goods that her and I made together. I have gratefully taken on her role of bringing baking to those same gatherings she used to be a part of. In this baking I hope to honor the women that made me who I am today.
Through Hummingbird Bake Co. I hope that I can bring people together through the simple joy of baking, as my mother did so well, and that the love I pour into this baking is truly felt in every product.
